I just watched two of my favorite teams in the London 2012 Olympics compete on NBC: two-time Olympians American pair Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings and China’s Zhang Xi (张希) and Xue Chen (薛晨). The American pair won in closely contested sets, 22-20 and 22-20. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese team lost to the pair and settled for bronze. Since then, they have defeated Kerri Walsh and Misty May three times, including at the recent 2012 Beach Volleyball Moscow Grand Slam. It was intense and a true contest of will. Congratulations to the American team. If the pair wins again, it will be 3 Olympic golds; a truly impressive feat!
I am partial to volleyball because I play the sport. So, I thought I take this opportunity to offer a public service on this post and let you in on some volleyball secret. Have you ever wondered what those gestures mean behind the players butts?

Interesting. I wonder if there are sign spies that are in the audience or sidelines who can see the signs and who then sign to the opposing players what are the intentions of the other team. In baseball, this often happens and players must often change signs. It’s like a mini WWII enigma scenario.

lol. Those spies would get hypnotized first! Signal is given seconds before the serve. It’d be too distracting I think to make that a practicality.
