Two bicycle thieves, two reactions from society

December 11, 2013 by YinYang 4 Comments

Have you ever wondered what “white privilege” is? The following segment is produced by ABC to highlight the American public’s racial bias towards Whites and Blacks. For good measure, it adds a twist – by adding a “beautiful” blonde as the final case. It is a short segment and totally worth watching.

Now think about this – when everything Chinese – the people, the companies, the culture, and the country herself are explicitly or implicitly trivialized or demonized in American media constantly, then what do you expect? While the days of Slavery of African Americans and Chinese Exclusion Act are over, the racist sentiments are still teething beneath the surface – as we see in these bicycle theft reactions.

While we’re talking about privilege, one should also take a look at this case (see link below). Of course, in this case, it’s the privilege of affluence & money.

Remember those western reports about how the rich & powerful in China are above the law, & get away with anything? Remember the way the US media exploited the incident about a year ago in which the son of a prominent official in Beijing crashed his car & got himself killed along with two girls to illustrate that point (despite the fact that the official in question ultimately got investigated & punished)? I wonder how the US media would portray THIS story if it happened in China. I also wonder how the Chinese public would react if a Chinese lawyer made the same argument to get his client off with a slap on the wrist, & the Chinese judge actually accepted it.

Teen kills 4, gets probation due to ‘affluenza’
    Published on Dec 11, 2013

A teenager in Fort Worth, Texas was given probation after driving drunk and killing four pedestrians. Prosecutors pushed for a jail sentence of 20 years for 16-year-old Ethan Couch, whose blood alcohol content at the time of the accident was 0.24 – three times the legal limit for someone of drinking age – and also contained traces of Valium. Couch’s attorney argued that his client was too rich and privileged to know right from wrong, as he had never been punished for previous transgressions. RT’s Sam Sacks looks into this case of “affluenza.”

On the other hand, if you have neither racial nor economic privilege, then stuff like this happens to you:

Police Dog Forced Into Car To Bite Surrendering Man | No Charges For Cop
    Published on Dec 11, 2013
“A grand jury declined to indict a North Carolina police officer this week despite viewing dashboard camera video that clearly shows him shoving a police dog inside a suspect’s vehicle as he holds his hands up in surrender.

The police dog then attacks the suspect, Johnnie Williams, as he’s trapped inside his car.

Williams, who suffered facial lacerations, said he never had a chance to surrender after leading Wilmington police on a pursuit Oct. 31 after driving through a drunken driving checkpoint.

Dash cam video shows Williams ram a police cruiser and running stop signs as he led officers on a chase through the city.”* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

Sadly, Blacks, Latinos, “Native Americans” and Asians also are brainwashed in thinking there in nothing wrong with white-skin privilege. It’s part of the colonial mindset being passed on from one generation to the next for the past five centuries. The issue of skin color is a very complex and very convoluted aspect within social control.
