Tickets to remaining Olympic events are going on sale on Friday (July 25th). On Water-Wood BBS (水木社区), people were talking about spending Thursday night in line. But now most are shocked to find that that very long lines have already formed Wednesday night; thousands of Beijing’ers are planning to camp out two nights to purchase what few tickets remain.
Water-Wood BBS used to be exclusively used by students at Qinghua university, and they probably are still the great majority. But now it’s used by many other Beijing college students as well.
Everyone is expecting prices for even the unpopular events to go as high as 2-4 times their face value. Popular events (like swimming, gymnastics, basketball) will go for more than 10 times their face value.
One piece of good news? As of Wednesday night, there were no lines forming at Chaoyang Park… where remaining tickets for beach volleyball are on sale.
Another piece of good news? As hot as Beijing is during the summer, spending a night outside playing cards isn’t such a bad way to spend your time.
Luán Jújié will be competing for Canada in women’s foil 😀
If I were in Beijing, I would definitely want to see her compete. Hopefully, I’ll catch her on TV.
“…thousands of Beijing’ers are planning to camp out two nights to purchase what few tickets remain.”
This is unhealthy. Beijing nights are hot and steamy. Go home, sleep well and be productive.
“…and be productive.”
What do you mean exactly? 😉
My original meaning was “get ready for work tomorrow”. Now I realize it could be mis-interpreted.
Wang Junxia may be a greater athlete than Liu Xiang, since her 1993 women’s 3,000 and 10,000 meter world records still stand.
She trained at altitude every day, but her coach, Ma also credited the success of his runners to turtle blood soup and Cordyceps.
Such a regret that I can not be there.

This will be my 3rd day in Beijing, and unfortunately, the air is still disappointingly bad. I don’t think any of this is going to “dissipate”; all of the current policies is just making sure nothing goes up in the air, but that doesn’t help what’s already trapped there.
This would be a great time for some wind or rain. I think I heard rain’s expected later this week…
