I had glanced over some news article titles/briefings over the last couple of days regarding Saturday Night Live’s parody of Sarah Palin, but didn’t check it out until reading about it in the Inside-Out China blog. I must say I agree with Xujun that Tina Fey is superb. Hey, Senator McCain, are you sure you picked the right running mate?
Ideally, I would only need to comment on Sarah Palin once here and no more. I should start by saying that she demonstrated a greater adherence to integrity and principle than most of the politicians I have read/heard about. Just do the math: on the numbers of babies born with the Down Syndrome before and after effective prenatal screening methods were identified, and the percentage of the population that is against elective abortions.
That said, Ms. Palin assuredly followed in the images/stereotypes of Dan Quayle and George W. Bush (and perhaps much more so). Her selection on the ticket is a disservice to half of the human beings on earth. But, I don’t necessarily blame her for it. This is a mistake mainly caused by you know who that selected her. This case is not unlike Harriet Miers’ brief nomination to be a Supreme Court justice (and perhaps much more so). Ms. Miers is at least acknowledged as a competent and successful lawyer; She just doesn’t have any background in the constitution law.
Along this line, the readers might also find this article about a retrospective review of an adoring book on George W. Bush’s presidential leadership genius written in 2002, penned by Marc Abrahams, editor of the Annals of Improbable Research and organizer of the Ig Nobel prize, hmmm, fun.
PS: Greetings after a month long absence due to a long vacation in China and Thailand. It’s nice to be back at home. But to be honest, I didn’t really want to come back, from the vacation that is. 🙂 Anyway, this is a light post and not exactly China related. Please excuse me. I just want to say “hi”.
It’s nice to see new features and continued improvements in the blog. Thanks CLC, for all the hard and valuable work in running this site. It’s also nice to see some new names in the comments section. (I have to admit that I am hardly able to catch up with all the posting and comments yet; I dread reading those post with 3 digit comments. Ahhh.)

Sarah Palin represents everything which is wrong with American politics. It is another new low after W. She appears sincere because she’ s just a rookie, rawness is oftenly misinterpreted as freshness. Politicians are as clean as their options, Gov Palin hasnt showed any quality/charactor that she can be otherwise. On the other hand I feel Mccain is a man of honor and principle, unfortunately he’s also a man of the past.
To me the notion that Hockey Moms and Joe 6 packs want somebody they can identify with to be in the WH is ridiculous. I didnt graduate from ivy leagues either, it doesnt mean I want someboy as mediocore and lazy as me to be the leador of my country. There is a reason that main street Joe drinks beer everyday, coz he chills out too much. You certainly dont want your leader to be anything like that. What’s the most important quality for a President? A profound thinker with vision and competency. Call me elitist snob but I have yet to see any convincing arguments that the winner of a Bubba contest would make a better leador.
I always wondered how on earth the cultral war movment started by social conservatives in the early 90s can be so successful, given its shallowness and apparent falseness. I bought and read Tom Frank’ s What ‘s up with Kansas and came up empty, he indicates it’s homerism, “Yeah we knew Dubya is a dumb truck but he’s an American truck, and Kerry is ……French”. But why would so many people buy into that? Untill one day I saw Charles Barkley(yeah, the NBA star) say in his show “I dont care what people say, people are stupid”. It was like a gossip from the heaven, He’s so right. People are so stupid that they can be so easily fooled and manipulated, and they dont even realize they can be so stupid that the decision from their best knowledge and judgement and the most noble part of their hearts, collectively could be so deadly disastrous.
By no means I m trying to diss American people, despite of all I said, American electorate is still the most mature and smartest in the entire world ……

How on earth did they pick up this stupid woman? A redneck Maccain + a redneck Palin? It scares me to think that they may have the chance to win.

You mean John McCain didn’t pick Tina Fey to be his VP running mate? I normally watch TV with the sound turned off so I assumed it was her and… well, you just ruined my life! I hate you!!!
Who is Sarah Palin??? I’ve heard of Michael Palin from Monty Python, any relation?
Michelle says
Wow, just watched it – very good, scarily good!

I think Fey’s politics would be a little too liberal, even for a “maverick” like McCain. Plus she wouldn’t do nearly as good a job as Palin in charging up the religious conservative evangelical Christian right wing base. But you guys should check out Baby Mama (no, I’m not on Fey’s payroll)…one funny movie.

Why, she can practically see China from her home in Alaska! Therefore, she has extensive foreign policy experience. I guess we’ll have refer to her by her Chinese name, Lin Pei. Now we just need to get her a passport. 🙂
