Ouch! A sign raised by Nigerian fans at the Olympic men's soccer semi-final between Nigeria and Belgium

August 20, 2008 by DJ 18 Comments

Translation:

We are not good in gymnastics
We are not good in table tennis
But we are good in soccer

Somehow I have a feeling this was created by Chinese fans and handed over.

Can’t be Chinese fans. A Chinese fan would write something like:

    LOL … absolutely love it

If there is ever a China bashing subject I truly enjoy, this will be it.

It won’t surprise me though if this turns out to be the idea from a Chinese fan.

Some acute observer noted on wenxuecity.com’s sports forum that in the sign an upward stroke is missing in the Chinese character 操, and two little dots are absent in each of the 球 character. As we all understand what these three pieces aim to depict when putting together, the missing parts are indeed what are lacking in the Chinese men’s national soccer team.

Too much of a “sophisticated” innuendo for Nigerian fans to come up with, don’t ya think? 🙂

So much for the ban on banners at Olympic venues.

Here’s my idea for the next Nigerian sign, which should show the front to get the TV camera’s attention and then the back to get the IOC’s attention:

    Front:

That is funny and original; not terribly offensive since it’s somewhat self-depricating.

“Somehow I have a feeling this was created by Chinese fans and handed over”

    Why?

(Bob’s cryptic explanation that it’s some kind of penis joke that’s beyond the Nigerians doesn’t convince me…)

    rory,

It’s just a guess. The tone is rather consistent with Chinese fans’ sarcastic attitude against men’s soccer team.

This is from sinvision.net, even funnier

(newstarnet.com)

。。(newstarnet.com)
